Review a pull request's infrastructure

Updated October 19, 2026Plans: Free, Pro, Enterprise

Overview

A pull request that starts using Redis needs a Redis before it can run. ArchFoundry reads the repository at the pull request's base and at its head, and says what the head needs that the base did not: each new service with its list price, the new settings the code reads, and anything ArchFoundry cannot deploy. A review is words and a price. Nothing is built.

Prerequisites

Steps

  1. On the canvas, open the command palette (Ctrl+K) and choose Version control: branches, history and changes.
  2. Pick the repository, then open the Pull requests tab. It lists the open pull requests.
  3. On a pull request, click Review infrastructure. ArchFoundry reads it at its base and its head.
  4. Read the review: what the head needs, how each need is drawn, and its list price.
  5. To share it, click Post on the pull request. It posts one comment under your organization's connected GitHub identity, and edits that same comment the next time you post.

Example

For a pull request titled "Cache sessions in Redis", which adds the ioredis package, the comment ArchFoundry posts reads:

text
Infrastructure for this pull request

This change needs Redis, which main does not use yet.

| Needs | ArchFoundry would add | List price |
| Redis | ElastiCache Redis (micro) | $12/mo |

About +$12/mo at AWS list prices (us-east-1), from ArchFoundry's price book.
The smallest size; a bigger one is a change on the canvas.

Why: package.json: ioredis.

New settings the code reads: REDIS_PASSWORD is a secret: set it in
ArchFoundry's Secrets card, never in the code; SESSION_TTL is configuration.

Nothing has been created.

Expected result: each need comes with the file and package that made the claim, and the new names the code reads are sorted into secrets and configuration. Values are never read, only names. A pull request that needs nothing new says Needs no new infrastructure.

Verify it worked

  • The review lists the services the head needs that the base did not.
  • After posting, a link says Posted on the pull request or Updated the comment on the pull request.

Troubleshooting

No open pull requests on the repository. There is nothing to review on that repository. Open a pull request first.

GitHub listed only part of the files, so this may miss something. Very large pull requests are read in part. Treat the review as a starting point.

An owner or admin can post this on the pull request. Members can read a review but not post it.

The review says From a fork. A pull request from another repository is reviewed like any other, and never built.

The review says a change starts using something ArchFoundry cannot deploy. That dependency, for example MongoDB, has no card. Plan to run it elsewhere.
