Set up your account and profile

Overview

The first time you sign in, ArchFoundry opens a short setup, one question per screen. Your answers tell Archie what depth to answer at and where your workspace should start. Every screen except your name can be skipped, and you can change all of it later in Settings.

Prerequisites

  • An ArchFoundry account. See Get started with ArchFoundry to create one. Any role can answer the questions.
  • To connect a repository during setup, you need to be the workspace owner or an admin.
  • To rename the company, you need to be the workspace owner.

Steps

  1. Sign in. Setup opens on Welcome to ArchFoundry.
  2. Check Full name. It is filled in from sign-up, or from your Google or GitHub profile. Add a photo with Upload a photo if you want one.
  3. If you are the owner, type your Company. This names the workspace for everyone in it. Then press Continue.
  4. On What do you do at your company, pick the tile that fits your role, or Something else and type it. Press Continue, or Skip this step.
  5. On How deep do you go?, pick your cloud architecture experience and your years working in the cloud.
  6. On What's your stack?, pick the clouds and tools you use. Type anything missing into Add your own and press Enter.
  7. On Connect your code, pick where your infrastructure code lives:
    • GitHub takes you to GitHub to pick repositories, then brings you back to this screen. No token is stored.
    • GitLab saves your setup, then opens GitLab so you can pick projects.
    • GitHub Enterprise and GitLab Self-Managed ask for the repository URL and an access token. Press Connect repository.
  8. Press Finish setup. If a token form is still open, the button reads Finish without connecting.
  9. Press Open the canvas, or one of the starting points on the last screen.

To leave at any point, press Skip setup in the top corner. Whatever you already answered is saved.

Example

On the GitHub Enterprise or GitLab Self-Managed form, paste the address of the repository from your browser. Any page inside the repository works.

text
https://<your-git-host>/<your-team>/<your-repository>

Replace the three placeholders with your host, team and repository. Expected result: the repository appears above the provider tiles with a Connected badge.

Verify it worked

  • Your name and photo show at the bottom of the workspace sidebar.
  • In the workspace, open Settings. The Profile tab shows your answers.
  • A repository you connected is listed on the Repositories page.

To change anything later, open Settings, then Profile, edit the fields and press Save changes. Discard puts back what was saved. Repositories are added and removed on the Repositories page.

Troubleshooting

Add your name to continue. Your name is the one required answer. Type it in Full name.

Only the workspace owner can change this. Only the owner can rename the company. Ask them, or leave it as it is.

Repositories are connected by your workspace owner or an admin. Your role cannot connect repositories. Press Finish setup and ask an owner or admin to connect one.

GitHub is waiting for an owner of that organization to approve ArchFoundry. Once they have, press Connect GitHub again. Your GitHub organization needs an owner to approve the app. Once they do, open Repositories and press Connect GitHub.

You chose not to authorize ArchFoundry on GitHub, so nothing was connected. Press Connect GitHub to try again. You cancelled on GitHub. Pick GitHub again, or finish setup and connect later from Repositories.

Profiles can't be saved on this server yet. Setup and the Profile tab cannot save on this server. Everything else works. Contact the person who runs your ArchFoundry server.
